Past due dates were: On Oct.1st  your smocks were due. If you still need one I have some left. Your unfinished photos were due to me on Oct.1st on a : Thumb Drive, Memory Card, or Disc.                                                                                              Future due dates are: On Oct.15th your final photo is due it should be a standard measurement (at least 8"X10"). If it is 8"X10" I will mat it for you.If you print it larger  you will be responsible for mating. The mat should be white. A few students have a number of excellent photos. I may ask you to print more than one  (you would get extra credit) but this is not required. We will have a photo show on Oct.18th durring the open house. These photos will be entered in the Fine arts competition in Jan. and in next years Deerfield Fair. Next year after the Deerfield Fair they will be available for pickup in the art room.                                                                                                          ALSO due on Oct.15th is a metal (outline style) cookie cutter (it will be returned unharmed) and/or a tennis ball. These are for a Christmas project.

The 7th and 8th grade art class is working on a project to be auctioned off. An old wooden sewing machine cabinet has been re-purposed as a side table by Mr. lawton, Mr. Radford and, Mr. Sims until it was nice and sturdy.  So Far Shamar, Henry and, Justin have put on several primer coats of Kilz. The students have chosen a very attractive color palate and will begin painting next week. They are also working on Figure Ground Designs to go on the 3 side panels and front door. Figure Ground Design can be difficult to learn and is usually not taught until senior high or college. Please encourage and pray for them, there is still a lot to do! Parents,

We will be learning how to do a research paper during 2nd quarter.  Our class has moved up to the computer lab.  We will be doing the bulk of our paper in class. However, whatever the students do not finish in class will become homework.  So, there are a few items your student will need for this project: 

1.  a thumbdrive (to save work and be able to transport information back and forth from home to school)

2. 3x5 notecards

3.  a report cover 

I have given the students a deadline sheet.  This is a big project and any help you can give at home would be much appreciated.  Thank you!  Feel free to email me with any questions.

2nd semester you will be required to turn in Current Event Word Documents. 

To find out what they are I have attached a "Current Event doc." that you can view in order to see the directions again.

1. Make a Word doc. of your typed up summaries 
2. Go to thinkwave.com
3. Log in (I gave you your access code:)
4. Go to your grades and look for an assignment labeled "Current events"
5. You do not have a grade on this assignment 
6. Click on "Upload" 
7. Choose the file/Word doc. you have created for your current event summaries
8. Upload it. 

3 Current Event Summaries each week. Thats 3 different Articles

Your Articles should be labeled in in one of these following categories:

Headline - The front page article, above the fold the main article on the front
page
• Political Cartoon - Not the comic page, but from the editorial pages. Usually a single
pane. For this category your first paragraph explains the meaning of the cartoon
followed in the second by your reaction. (You must attach a copy of the cartoon to
your report.)
• Sports Story - From the sports page.
• Turkey Award - A story that was about something you thought of as being really silly,
useless or illogical.
• Good Deed Award - Sometimes news organizations report something good.
• It’s a Weird World - A story that you thought of as strange or odd in some way.
• Business News - Go to the business section and find something about business or
commerce.
• Arts and Leisure - Go the the arts section of the news media and report something
there. (No credit will be given for stories on rock stars, movie personalities, etc. No pop
culture)
• Human Interest - A story that shows something interesting about the human condition.

The articles should also include the link to the article you read from an online news site. 

OR 

The article should include the date of the issue you read in a magazine or newsaper. 

For now you will continue to add to the same Word document each week as you have it. 

By the end of 2nd quarter there will be many different summaries from each week in the same Word document as you will continue to edit and add to the same document. 

Use this header to divide the weeks.

All late assignments are due by Thursday Oct. 20th. Nothing will be accepted after class on Thursday. Your term project: Outside Reading is also due that day. Make sure to have completed reading a total of 500 pages from our Junior high section in the Library. Remember if you would like to read a book from another class you need to check it with me BEFORE you start reading it or it will not count.
