Jr Youth Group - Weekly update

Salaam Students and Parents,

We had a great discussion on Chapter 6 of our book on the early stage of revelation including topics of jihad and origins of 'insha"Allah'. In the second period, students attended presentation on managing stress and anxiety in the school setting by Dr. Nasim Shajihan who is the medical director at Watson Institute in Sewickley.

For 2/24 class, we will finish our discussion on Chapter 6 and complete the worksheet. I have also sent out an article from the Yaqeen Institute by Omar Suleiman that have requested students to read for discussion. I have emailed to group as well.

Thanks,

Hafeez

Jr Youth Group - Weekly update

from:Dheen, Hafeez

to:Youth Group

Dear Students and Parents,

As-Salaamu Alaikum. On 12/2/18, we had our service project at the Ronald Mcdonald House in Pittsburgh. It was combined with Sr. Youth due to restriction on number of people in the kitchen at one time so we divided into 2 groups. The 2nd group will go on 12/16/18 insha'Allah. For those who attended the first session, Alhamdulilah it was very successful and insha'Allah very rewarding experience for the students being able to work together as a team to prepare a meal for families who are both emotionally and financially burdened with the unfortunate circumstance of having a sick child in the hospital.

For 12/9/18, class please read Chapter 4 from Footsteps book and use the attached worksheet which is also found in the the Google Drive folder for Jr Youth Group - 12/9/18 worksheet - which all students have access to this folder.

Regards,

Hafeez

As-Salaamu Alaikum,

Alhamdulilah we were able to get the school and our group together this past Sunday at Marshall Elementary School. I wanted to thank all the students for being an integral part in helping with the Seerah Competition. We also did have a short class where we discussed the responses from the essay assignment. Most of the students did complete the assignment and provided good detailed responses with pertinent Quran and hadith references.

Insha'Allah, please have students read Chapter 4 in 'Footsteps' book and we will also discuss planning of upcoming service project and Fun Day. Will also have Quran class in the second period led by Sr. May.

Regards,

Hafeez

As-Salaamu Alaikum,

Dear Parents,

Due to the school closure, we are making an effort to keep students engaged with providing some home assignments. I have an attached a writing assingment for students to complete this week. Please have them email their completed assignment to me by end of the day on Sunday, Nov. 4th.

Also I would please ask they review Chapter 3 from the book and make sure they completed the homework worksheet which was assigned for that chapter.

We are looking into some options to also get the group together this weekend potentially for a movie/outing. I will pass along details very soon insha'Allah.

Jr Youth Group - weekly update 10/14

As-Salaamu Alaikum,

On  10/14/18, we completed Chapter 2 in 'Footsteps' book and started Chapter 3 while discussing relevant applications to our lives today. We also discussed current events. In the 2nd hour, we had 3 girls from the graduated youth group lead a planning session for the upcoming Seerah Scavenger Hunt which our group will help organize and run. All students were asked to check their availability for Saturday, Oct. 27th from 11AM to 1PM to help set up the scavenger hunt at MAP. The MAP Sunday School Teachers training will be going on in conjuction that day. Sr. May also spent time after the planning meeting in the 2nd period to review Surah Kaf.

I have attached the worksheet we used for the 10/14 class.

Homework: Read Chapter 3 in 'Footsteps' book. Please refer to attached worksheet for 10/21 and answer questions and be ready to discuss. Also confirm availability for Saturday, 10/27 and update on tasks that were assigned during seerah competition planning session.

FYI...all worksheets/handouts for entire class are available in the Google Drive Folder we set up in class.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions/concerns.

Jr. Youth Group weekly update - 9/24

from:Dheen, Hafeez

to:Youth Group

As-Salaamu Alaikum,

This week the group had their Fun Day and enjoyed playing soccer golf together followed by lunch and a short halaqa.

Last week, on 9/16/18, we reviewed the first chapter of the 'Footsteps' book and had a good discussion. I attached our handout from that class.

This upcoming week, on 9/30/18, we HW will be to read Chapter 2. I have attached a handout for Chapt 2 to help guide students to some important details of the chapter as the book is at a slightly higher reading level so hope this helps.

We will also be doing a presentation at assembly on 9/30/18 so please remind students to prepare any tasks they were given in preparation.

Also please ask students to check email to make sure they are getting the group email that I am trying to use to communicate with students outside of class. If they do not recieve them, please ask them to send me a quick response at hdheen@gmail.com

Thanks!
