Dear Quran 5 Parents,

Assalamu Alaikum:

Today we listened to children recite verses 284 & 285 of Surah Al-Baqarah for HW #10. There was a good number of them who did not have it memorized. Please continue to work with them at home.

I have attached the next homework assignment (HW #11) which is due in 2 weeks. If they need more time, we can find another week. Based on their performance in this HW, I will also upgrade their score in homeworks 8 & 9. 

Beautiful names of Allah's (SWT) Project: Some children have already sent their slides. Others, please do so by Tuesday evening. Children will present these slides in the prayer hall on Feb 17 at the beginning of the first period. I would like all parents (or at least one parent from each family) to attend this presentation to encourage all children.

Storytime by Some of Quran 5 Students: Following children have been working on a story for younger children on the great event of first revelation in Cave Hira:

Faaris (Visit of Anegl Jibrael in Cave Hira)
Alina (Muhammad (S) Returns from Cave Hira to Khadija)
Hebah (Khadijah takes Muhammad (S) to her cousin Warqa)

As of now we are planning to present this story on Feb 24 in Grade 1 class. I will send more reminders as we get closer to the date (inshallah). Please continue to help your children practice the story.

Weekly Update for 02/10/2019

Dear Parents,

Since we had so many canceled classes, I am teaching two letters each class to catch up on my lesson plan and I need your support at home. We covered the letters ain and ghayn today. Usually we take the time to trace and color the letters in the book in class but today we played a game to review previous letters. So please have your son/daughter complete these pages at home(pg 75-82). We will start a new Surah(Falaq) next week inshaAllah. Have them listen to Surah Falaq before they go to bed every day.

Weekly Update for Islamic Studies 6 for 2/10/2019

Dear Parents, Today we covered the concept of Masbooq (joining the jamaah after the prayer have already started). This is an important, yet not very intuitive subject. We went through various exercises to show students how the logic works. We’ll review it again in the coming weeks to make sure students get a full grasp of the subject. Please see the attached informational sheet.

Homework for February 17th: Describe how to complete the following prayers when you join the jama’ah in the second raq’ah of Magrib prayer and 3rd raq’ah of Isha prayer.

Assalamu alaikum, This Sunday we took the test. The rest of the time was spent practicing for the assembly presentation. The students did a great job presenting the five pillars of Islam. There picture is attached. Homework: Students who did not do their homework from Unit C, Chapter 1 should cover their homework. Also some students did not memorize Thana, and got a zero on that part of the test. I would like to give them another opportunity to work on it this week and improve their score.

Last Sunday we covered two chapters from the book and students also researched and presented on three verses of the Quran.

I have created a spreadsheet that can be used by students to track the Salat that they are performing. Each Sunday I will briefl go over this spreadsheet. There would be some reward for student(s) who do very well or who show the most improvement.

Assalamualaikum, CW: We covered what to read in Sajadah and how the second Rakah of Salat is performed and what is included in second Rakah. Also we have finished chapter 6 of unit B. HW: What to recite in Sajadah and how second Rakah of Salah is performed. Study questions at the end of Chpter 6 unit B. UNIT B TEST: There will be a 15 point multiple choice questions , fill in the blanks or matching quiz Test on unit B that includes chapter 1-6. And the date is: 2/24/19. Test will be taken in the class and children are expected to know by heart. Prepare your children from study questions. Last day or snow make up is 3/3/19.

Weekly Update for Feb 3 2019

Dear Quran 5 Parents,

Assalamu Alaikum:

I am happy to introduce Sr. Raya who have joined our class as a teacher's assistance. Sr. Raya is an experienced English and Science teacher as well as native Arabic speaking; she will be helping children with proper recitation using rules of Tajweed. She is also working on some other fun learning activties and already presented one today in class.

Today we listened to children recite verse 284 of Surah Al-Baqarah for HW #9. All of them did a wonderful job (masha' Allah).

I have attached the next homework assignment (HW #10) which is due next week. Please help them memorize the verses 284-285 of Surah Al-Baqarah.

Beautiful names of Allah's (SWT) Project:  Three children have prepared posters for their assigned names and I collected from them. Other children are working on slides (some have already sent it to me). Please send your children's slide by next Sunday. Children will present these slides in the prayer hall on Feb 17 at the beginning of the first period. Weekly Update for Islamic Studies 6 - 2/3/2019

Today we did a class exercise on how to pray a fard, strong sunnah, and weak sunnah prayer to compare the differences between them. We watched a video for each prayer type and students checked their answers on the study sheet I had handed out in our last class. We used the following web site for the prayer videos. In the second part of the class we covered Al-Khushoo (Unit D, Chapter 1) from our textbook.

Assalamu alaikum, This Sunday we worked on the first Chapter of Unit B, ‘His Name was Muhammad’. We talked about how we should always say ‘SallAllahu alayhi wasallam’ whenever we say Prophet Muhammad’s (S) name. A reminder at home will be greatly helpful. Homework: Students have to do the excercises on pages 22 and 23 from the workbook. Test: Students will also have their test on February 10, 2019 from Unit C, chapters 1, 2 and 3. They will also be tested on starting Salah with Takbeer and Thana “Subhana Kallahumma wa Bihamdika.......Wala Illaha Ghairuk”. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Assalamu Alaikum: Although Sunday school was closed once again this past weekend due to inclement weather, I have attached the next HW assignment so we don't fall too far behind our schedule (inshallah). Please help them memorize the verses 284-285 of Surah Al-Baqarah (see attached).

WEEKLY UPDATE 1/13/19

AA parents, 

Today we covered UNIT E CHAPTER 1 who is my role model. Please complete HW in the workbook, the page number is 83. Some kids are still not doing their HW so I have attached the lesson plan to their books. Please make note of what is due. Thank you. 

We also covered a lesson for salah. The salah lesson was UNIT C chapter 6, Du'aa. 

Insha Allah next week on 1/20 the class will have their turn at assembly. We have prepared to read a poem about asking Du'aa. Your child has a printout in his/her backpack that we practiced with. Please go over it at home as well. Thank you.
