HTML Tutorials

Class:

Go to http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_intro.asp to start an online instructional tutorial of how HTML codes work.  Try to complete as many chapters as possible before Tuesday.  On Tuesday and Wednesday you will work on the CSS tutorial chapters.  REMEMBER:  Next Thursday is your practice test on HTML/CSS and Friday will be the major test.

Word Processing Projects

Your projects this week will be

1)  Create a flyer for a grand opening of a zoo in Marion.  You need to include at most 3 pictures of different animals found in a zoo, use different fonts in different sizes and colors, include the address of the new zoo, time and day of the grand opening, admission prices, etc. 

2) Type a letter to a local newspaper asking it to publish an article about the grand opening of the zoo.  Needs to have complete sentences, proper grammar and spelling, use a standard font in black such as Arial or Times New Roman with size 10 or 12, 1 inch margins, portrait mode, black font color, and include the same information contained in your flyer, and needs to be between 150 to 300 words.

Both are due before end of class Thursday.  Submit your finished projects to your Thinkwave accounts. Good luck and have fun!

Word Processors

Class:

Today you will being to learn features of word processing software and how to create different types of documents using a word processing program.  We will focus on Google Docs but other word processing software such as OpenOffice Writer, LibreOffice Writer, Microsoft Word, and Corel Wordperfect work almost the same with paid programs such as Microsoft Word and Corel Wordperfect offering some very advanced features. 

Head to http://www.gcflearnfree.org/googledocuments and go through the 14 lessons on using Google Docs.  Also, go to http://www.gcflearnfree.org/word2010 to see lessons dealing with using Microsoft Word for those of you who have Word installed on your computers.

Next week you will have a project in which you will have to create a document for a grade so please try to learn as much as you can!

Make sure you know the differences between a bit, byte, kilobyte (KB), megabyte (MB), gigabyte (GB) and terabyte (TB).

Registration to ClassMarker

Hello class,

Today I want you all to go to www.classmarker.com/register/ to register in order to take your online tests.  I will come around and give you your registration codes.  After registered, take the computer history practice exam.  You will have three times to take this practice test in order to give you the feel of how to take a test on the computer.  These practice tests will not count towards your grade but on Thursday you will take the real test which will count.

First Computer Class Test

Next Thursday is going to be the date for your first computer class test.  We will set up classmarker.com accounts on Monday and let you start taking practice tests in order to get the hang of it.  The practice tests will not be timed or count as grades but the test on Thursday will.  The material on the test will be taken from the two questionnaires completed this week.
