Curriculum Night

from:Obszarski, Karin

to:Homeroom 503

We made it through our first week and we are so looking forward to our year with this great group of kids!  We just want to remind you that we will have Curriculum NIght to explain the 4th grade program on Monday, August 27th at 8:00-9:00 PM.  We hope that will give you some insight into our year and answer any questions you may have about 4th grade.

Have a great weekend!

Curriculum Night

from:Fenster, Melissa

to:All Students

I was so excited to see such a great turnout tonight at Curriculum Night. If you were not able to attend, a packet will be sent home with your child tomorrow detailing the 6th grade curriculum.

Please know you can contact me any time you have a question or concern. One thing that I would like to add relates to math homework. If your child is working on math homework and has spent an honest hour trying to work out problems, please sign the paper and have your child stop working. They will still receive 3 points for having completed the assignment. Your signature shows me that they worked at least an hour on the assignment.

Welcome to 4th grade

from:Obszarski, Karin

to:Homeroom 503

I hope you've had a great summer and are ready to get back to school! I know I am!

These are just a few odds and ends:

Clorox/ Lysol wipes: We’d love to have a supply on hand to clean desks as often as possible. Please send in what you can.

Book Covers: All hardback books need to be covered at all times. While you can use paper covers, we suggest the stretchy fabric covers. They stay on all year and protect the books. Since our books are so large, you will need to use the large size covers. Here are the dimensions, in inches, of the books that need covers (paper or fabric):

Writer’s Express:  9¼ x 6¾ x ¾
Health:  11 x 9 x ¾
Ohio History:  11¼ x 8 ½ x 1

Student/Parent Surveys: Your child can fill out the top of the form and you can complete the bottom. This will help us get to know the children. Please return the form tomorrow.

Agendas: These should be filled out each day. In addition to daily assignments, students need to record the current book they are reading, the pages read each night, and the weekly spelling words. Parents need to sign the agenda each Thursday (same day as the take-home folder).

Birthday Treats: Birthdays are a big deal, as you well know. We prefer students share their treats during our lunchtime (11:25). Pre-packaged snacks are excellent and easy for students to distribute. Homemade treats such as cookies are wonderful too. Please do not send in anything that needs to be cut before serving. Napkins should accompany the birthday treats. Please also keep in mind those students who have dietary restrictions. We’d like everyone to be included in the treat!

The fourth grade Curriculum Night is Monday, August 27th at 8:00 P.M. We are looking forward to a wonderful year filled with learning, laughter and love. If you have any questions, feel free to call or email us.

Grading Notes for Parents/Students

from:Wilson, Katie

to:All Students

Things to note when looking at grades:

If an assignment is out of 3 points - this assignment was not collected, yet students are given credit for having the assignment completed when requested.

  • If a 3 is given, the assignment was completed on time.
  • If a 2 is given, the assignment was misssing or incomplete when requested and was turned in by the following class day.
  • If a 1 is given, the assignment was missing or incomplete when requested and was turned in more than one day after.
  • If a 0 is given, the assignment is still missing or incomplete.

If a M is written, that means the student was ABSENT when the assignment was completed or turned in. Once the assignment is turned in or made up, the grade will be entered. Another option for when a M is written means the student was in class, yet the assignment is late and will be taken for a grade, not counted for completion.

If an E is written, that means the student is EXCUSED from the assignment since they were not there for class and cannot make-up the work. They will not be penalized for not completing the assignment. (This typically applies to lab assignments.)
