Presentation Information and Notes for the Research Papers

from:Locker, Taylor

to:1130 Psych for MW

Hi all -

I am finishing up comments for you all tonight and tomorrow morning. So check your school email addresses for any comments I have that I think will helpful for the presentation Monday afternoon.

Overall, remember to review this rubric:

Each student will create a presentation based on his or her research findings in the form of an oral presentation. This presentation should last approximately 10 minutes. Students should prepare a PowerPoint presentation to facilitate the delivery of the material and provide all students (and the instructor) with a handout summarizing the presentation.

Grading Criteria*

-- Communication of Topic and Importance   10 points
 -- Midwifery Applications                                   10 points
 -- Time Limit                                                          5 points
 -- PowerPoint                                                        5 points
-- Professionalism and Delivery                       10 points
-- Handouts for Class                                         10 points

*Presentations of poor quality will lose points from across point categories

A few things ---

1) keep in mind your handouts should be created by YOU and are meant to demonstrate information to your fellow students in creative and brief ways. It should not just be a print out of your powerpoint slides!!!

2) practice your presentations to make them professional sounding and coherent

3) you all have very interesting topics, we want to hear you talk! try to relax to make your presentations great!

4) you may email me your presentation slides if you want me to just pull them for class Friday

Resource Guide Formatting

from:Locker, Taylor

to:1130 Psych for MW

Hi all -

I want to clarify something about the formatting for the Resource Guide. You may format it however you wish since the assignment is intended to serve as a starting point for you to be able to tell clients in the future about the psychological and social services in your practice area. I would highly recommend a 'formal' format - well organized, easy to read font, the same structure throughout, and medium sized font (12 or 14 pt). However, it could definitely have your own personal touch like a header with your name on it or border or something. It does not need to strictly APA format but you may do that if you wish. I will give your some readability feedback but will only deduct points if it is incomplete or very sloppy.

Email me if you'd like further clarification!

Assignments due Thursday!

from:Locker, Taylor

to:1130 Psych for MW

Just to clarify - your Self Care Plan is due Thursday as is First Impressions Assignment. The First Impressions assignment is a relatively brief and creative assignment. You should write two 'stories'. One story should be about your best case scenario for meeting an expectant mother for the first time (as a midwife). The other story should be about your worst case scenario for meeting an expectant mother for the first time. This should be 1 - 2 pages per story (12 point Times New Roman font, double spaced, 1" margins). You may choose to write it in first person ("I" did this) or dialogue (Becky said, "Hello" I said, "Hello") or some combination of the two. We will discussing in class these scenarios briefly.

Readings Due Clarification and Reading for Thursday posted

from:Locker, Taylor

to:1130 Psych for MW

Okay, I realized today that the syllabus might be confusing - you should be reading the "Readings" section as if a reading is listed on a day you should read for that day. For Thursday - you should read: Chapter 1 & 10 in Raynor & England; Chapter 1 & 2 in Simpkin & Klaus; “With Woman: Midwifery Care of Women With Unintended Pregnancies"

Attached is the reading, "With Woman: Midwifery Care of Women With Unintended Pregnancies"

I apologize for any inconvenience with the reading schedule and that I just noticed this evening this issue with the syllabus. If you cannot finish all the readings before class at least skim them to stay up with our lecture and discussions.

Lecture Slides from 5/17/12

from:Locker, Taylor

to:1130 Psych for MW

Hi all -

Here are the slides from class on 5/17. We will finish these slides and move on to the new topics this Thursday. I will post those slides when I finish updating them before class (should be up the lastest Wednesday night). I still strongly recommend you all take handwritten notes in your own words to further your encoding of the material.
