As the fourth week of school draws to a close, I thought I'd post an update about how classes are going in general. I want to begin by saying that I've been very impressed with the quality of students here at New Horizons! As a whole, students are well-behaved, and come to class ready to engage with the material. This really makes my job a pleasure. We can get right down to business, and try to have a little fun along the way!
If you're a parent who's wondering what your student has been up to, here's a quick recap of the last week or so, by class:
Math Life Skills, Period 1: Counting money, calculating tip and total at restaurants (This class follows a different curriculum than my 6th period class of the same name)
Algebra 1A, Period 2: Order of operations, writing equations to fit a pattern, solving for variables
Algebra 1B, Period 3: Creating and reading graphs (tally table, histogram, frequency plot, line plot, line graph, double line graph, bar graph, pie chart...)
Algebra 2, Period 4: Transformations of functions
Pre-Algebra, Period 5: solving and graphing inequalities
Math Life Skills, Period 6: Job interviews, reading pay stubs and bank statements
As always, if you want any specific information about your student, or any other topic, just send me an email! I am happy to respond to all questions and comments.
