This week, we will be headed back in time to meet some of Nevada's early explorers. Students will be introduced to people such as John Fremont and Kit Carson. Students will learn about Sarah Winnemucca and her role in bridging the gap between the federal government and the needs of the Southern Paiuite people. At the end of this unit, students should be able to identify key historical figures in Nevada's history and how their influence can be see in Nevada today.
For homework on Monday, students will be answering the following questions: How did Christopher "Kit" Carson and John Fremont know each other? How did their relationship and partnership influence Nevada history?
