Welcome New Horizons Center for Learning

Societies and Empires in Africa

TimeFeb. 19, 2013

from:Bidell, Barbara

to:World History/Humanities

Students will be embarking on a three week unit on the Societies and Empires in Africa. We will be reflecting on African culture in places like Mali, Ghana, and Benin, to name a few. Many of these cultures started millennia ago, but are alive and thriving today. Students will be creating individual projects that reflect their detailed understanding of an African society, both today and in the past.  For this unit, we are going to try something a little new. Students will create their own rubric under the teacher's guidance. I would like students to come to their own rational conclusions about what is important in studying history. We have talked about this subject matter at length, and I would like for the students themselves to apply that knowledge in the form of creating their own rubric together as a class.

There will be no homework for history this week since students were off on Monday. We will resume homework next week. If you have any questions regarding the subject matter, the curriculum or the methods of delivery, please feel free to drop me a line at bidellb@nhalv.org.
