Last week students wrapped up their unit on Infectious Diseases. This week, they are moving into a unit on Lifestyle Diseases. We will be focusing on some of the leading killers in the United States today: cardiovascular disease (heart attack and stroke), cancer, and diabetes. At the end of the unit, students will be able to define each of these diseases, note means to help reduce risk of these diseases, and how these diseases are diagnosed and treated. We will also talk about the various prognoses of each of these diseases.
Since this unit is quite long, there will be more than one vocabulary quiz. The first quiz, which students will take on Monday, will cover the first three sections of the chapter.
Students also are working on a project associated with a lifestyle disease. Those projects are due on Monday, March 11. For those taking the proficiency exams (10th graders), all deadlines will be pushed back to accommodate the additional time needed.
