Welcome New Horizons Center for Learning

Civil Rights in Nevada

TimeApril 22, 2013

from:Bidell, Barbara

to:Nevada History

We are continuing our unit on Modern Nevada. We will move in a little different direction this week as we take on the topic of civil rights in Nevada, especially as it relates to racial equality. Students will be working in partner groups to research and create a project associated with a pioneer in Nevada Civil Rights history.

For homework, students will be answering the following questions:

1) What is racial segregation?

2) Give an example of racial segregation in the 50s and early 60s.

3) What federal legislation was passed in 1964 that had to do with racial equality?

If you have any problems with the questions, or if there are any concerns regarding the unit, please feel free to drop me a line at bidellb@nhalv.org.
