Nevada Government; the 77th Legislative Session

TimeMay 04, 2013

from:Bidell, Barbara

to:Nevada History

This week, students will be embarking on a new unit that will focus on Nevada's 77th Legislature. Students will be reviewing the structure of the government in Nevada, and we will be discussing specific bills that have passed. Students will research how their assemblyman or senator voted on certain bills and whether he or she represents their own personal views on issues.

The assessment will be simple; a test on the structure of government. This will look very familiar since we have already gone over the structure when student voted in the election in November. I thought it was important to review the aspects of government late in the year, so the concepts will stick with students as they move toward adulthood. They will be taking a class that excusively addresses government during their high school years, and this exposure to state government will be helpful in preparing them for further study.

The homework this week will look very familiar as well. Once again, students are going to find their state assemblyman or assemblywoman and the state senator. For the Assembly, students can go to http://mapserve1.leg.state.nv.us/whoRU/ and type in their address at the top right hand corner. Students can then click on their house on the map and a tab should come up showing both their Assembly memb er and their Senate member who represents them. Let me know if you have any trouble.
