It has been a fun few weeks, reconnecting with your students, talking about the summer and the year ahead. They are avid listeners and contributors!
We have started our opera unit again this year. However, it will be tied into the music of the early 20th century, leading to the blues, with one of the most influential composers of the 20th century - George Gershwin. The first opera will be Porgy and Bess (with some editing by me, of course!), in which Gershwin was first able to combine 'pop' and 'classical' music into one genre that could be enjoyed by all. I have the full libretto and the DVD, which will be helpful in giving the students a sense of the time and place in which this opera was written.
I will be in the Commons for Back-To-School Night, and I hope to see many of you there!
