2012 Sallie Markham Michie Trust (SMMT) Essay Contest

Prepare to participate in the SMMT Essay Contest. Over the past two years, the Sallie Markham Michie Trust has given over 47 thousand dollars in scholarships to students who reside in Orange County and the portions of Chatham County that qualify. This year a PACE student could be the winner of a cash prize!
All 5th -12th grade students who reside in Orange County and that portion of Chatham County that lies north of US Hwy. 64 and east of NC Hwy. 87 are eligible to compete in the contest. We encourage eligible students to participate. Contest entries must be postmarked no later than Thursday, November 8, 2012. Winners will be announced in December. *Winners in each competition will receive awards ranging from $25 to $4000 from the Sallie Markham Michie Trust.
Charryse Fredrick and Bill Hoffman have agreed to assist students who want to participate in the contest. The initial interest meeting for 12th graders will be held in Coach Hoffman’s room on Thursday, September 13th at 12:05 p.m. *Students, bring your lunch, ideas, and any questions. Hoffman will give a brief overview of the Magna Charta, its fundamental principles, and historical significance. The charter is the topic for the 12th grade essay.
