Dear Students,
Nominate your favorite instructor for INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD!

Each year, the instructors and staff attend a company-wide meeting where various awards are presented.  One of those awards is for the INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR.
This is the only award where nominations from students are accepted and students are strongly encouraged to participate.  Some questions (Q) and answers (A) below.

Q. Why should I take the time to do this?
A. This is your chance to sing the praises of your favorite instructor!  In addition to a nice traveling plaque, the winner will get to pick A GIFT FOR HIS OR HER CAMPUS.  The gift will be one that will improve student learning!  This could be software, equipment, technology, or instructional device, etc.
Q. Who qualifies?   Does my favorite instructor qualify?
A. The instructor must have taught at least three courses during the previous 12 months.
Q. How do I nominate my favorite teacher?
A.  To nominate your favorite instructor, please follow the directions below:

1. Remember to include the full name of the instructor (can be found on your syllabus) that you are nominating, and your campus (BRIDGEPORT CAMPUS) in your nomination.

2. Describe why this instructor deserves this award.  Give specific examples of what makes this instructor such a great teacher. Tell the story. Is it the creative things this instructor does?  Is it his or her attitude and genuine desire to help students be successful?  Is it the things that he or she teaches that are “in demand” by today’s employers? There is no length minimum or maximum so feel free to give the awards committee as many reasons with details.

3. Send your nomination by email to Vandalia@wvjc.com.  You may want to write your nomination in a word document and attach it to your email to allow for more choices in formatting and spelling/grammar checks, and include it as an attachment to the email.  You can also cut and paste it from your final document directly into the body of the email. Make sure to put the instructor’s name and that you are nominating them for instructor of the year in the subject line of the email.  Example:
Subject:  Mr. John Doe – Instructor of the Year Award Nomination

Don’t Delay!  Nominate your favorite instructor as soon as possible!

Dear Faculty and Students,

It has been brought to my attention that there is someone by the name of Christopher Lowe who has been posting negative comments on facebook about WV Junior College-Bridgeport.  I have checked our student body records back to January 2002,when we started our first class at WVJC and found that we do not have a current student or a past student or graduate of WVJC by the name of Christopher Lowe.

Mr. Lowe’s negative comments regarding a college that he has never attended or experienced is just another example of today’s social media and how it is being used to inflict injury on an unsuspecting party or business.  I’m sorry for any concerns that Mr. Lowe’s false comments may have caused you.  I have had the opportunity to interact with many of you on various occasions and hope that you know that I sincerely care about each of you and look forward to sharing your future success as a graduate of West Virginia Junior College-Bridgeport.

Thank you.

Dear Students,

Many notices are posted on Thinkwave for an entire class or student body to see.  However, it is also part of the www and, as such, very public.

There are certain things that will only be sent to your private school email account.  For most of you, that would be your firstinitiallastname  @ wvjcinfo.net.

You can access this through the school website, click on the login button, type in your first initial and last name  (some of you may have a 2 after your name due to more than one person with that login id) and the last 6 digits of your soc. sec. number as your password (unless you have changed it)

Please check your email this weekend for important messages about school policy and personal and private financial aid information.

WE ARE GOING GREEN!!!!!

1.  Syllabi will no longer be printed.  They will be uploaded to Thinkwave for students to save to their Z drives or jump drives for reference.  If you want to have a paper copy of the outline, remember to only choose to print those pages on the print command page.  Some instructors may upload an "outline only" form in addition to the syllabus.

2. Since most of you check your grades on Thinkwave, paper grade reports will only be printed upon request for those who need them for verification to various agencies such as Choices, Mountainheart, etc.  Please request a paper copy from Michelle at the front desk.

3. Final Exam Policy effective Jan. 2, 2012 will be in your syllabi and is as follows:

FINAL EXAM POLICY: A student may be exempt from the review session and from taking the final exam in a specific course if BOTH the following conditions are met:  1.) Zero absences for all class days up to and including Tuesday of week 6. (For purposes of this policy, excessive tardiness and/or early departures may be considered an absence at the instructor’s discretion.)  and; 2.) All current coursework submitted by the end of class on Tuesday (or earlier depending on instructor policy) and a class grade of at least 90%.

Note: It will be student’s responsibility to check Thinkwave on Tuesday evening after all submitted work and grades are entered to determine if he or she qualifies for exemption, or by contacting the course instructor directly and receiving confirmation that he or she is exempt. Instructors will put an “E” in the finals grade block to signify that the student is exempt from taking the final exam and/or by a note in the grade block comments.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Fitzgerald in person or by email at bfitzgerald@wvjcinfo.net

Below are a few important things that students in the Medical Asst. Program need to be aware of:

1.  Med Club Meeting Wed., Nov. 16, 2011 @ 1225 in the Med Lab-future plans are being discussed. Come join in.

2.  For externships (whether voluntary or required) you will need several things:

Proof of vaccines (a copy must be on file) of MMR, TB, Tetanus, Hep. B, and possibly chicken pox (this may be required by some facilities).  You can receive them from your own doctor, Harrison County Health Dept gives vaccines on Tues. (9-11am or 1-3pm) or you may show proof by obtaining a titer level (Health Dept does not perform titer levels).

If you are pregnant you must have a written consent from your doctor that you may participate in externship.

If you have recently undergone surgery or have a on going health condition you may be asked to get a release from your doctor. (This is an individual case by case basis.)

CPR card course C for health care providers and AED.  If you do not have one  then please see Mrs. Frye  to sign up for class here at the school.  She will sign you up according to graduation date and when your externship will start.  CPR is a requirement to receive your degree. A signed copy of your card will need to go in your file.

If you have any questions you may stop into the med lab and I will try my best to answer them.

Thanks, Mrs. Williams
