Dear Parents,

Assalamalaikum,

We only had four students in the class today so mostly the class time was spent on preparing for the assembly presentation on March 24th.

Homework:

Students need to read about Sultan Salah ad-Din, who was ruler of Egypt and Syria in the twelfth century, and write a short essay of three paragraphs. The main topic in the essay would be the conquest of Jersalem that Sultan Saladin undertook in the year 1187.

Students have to avoid using Wikipedia and are highly enouraged to use other source of information. Following are some of possible sources:

Assembly Presentation on 3/24:

Reminder that students would be presenting in assembly on 3/24. Teams have been assigned and it is my expectation that every student will make effort for the presnetation, work with their team members and be prepared for 3/24.

Dear Quran 5 Parents,

Assalamu Alaikum:

Today we listened to children recite Dua' Qanut as part of HW #12. It appears they are all making progress (alhamdulillah). Please continue to work with your children to make sure they memorize the entire Dua' by next Sunday (3/24) when the HW will be graded.

We discussed the ideas suggested last week for the Surah Al-Baqrah skit and decided on the following:

"A new students is bullied by 3 students; one of the bullies feel bad for the new student and their own behavior; that bully then regrets and asks for forgiveness."

Here is the timeline for this skit:

  • March 24 - Lines due from all actors
  • March 31 - Practicing the lines (try to have them memorized)
  • April 7 - Final Rehearsal
  • April 14 - Present the Skit in front of an audience & parents

Please note that this schedule is very tight and students are expected to finish all their work as outlined. They are also expected to be available for extra practice after school on March 31 and April 7.

Here are the roles that students are assigned:

  • Bullies: Abeeha, Faatima T, Maryam
  • Student being Bullied: Fatima B
  • Friend of Student being Bullied: Alina
  • Teacher: Sarah
  • Narrator: Naeema
  • Roles TBD: Hebah, Zaid, Faaris

Parents,

Assalamalaikum,

Students would be presenting in the assembly on March 24th so today's homework is related to students preparing for the presentation on March 24th.

Groups:

Students will present in group of three so in total there would be three groups with each group having three students. Following are the groups:

Group A:

Asma

Hania

Ruha

Group B:

Arsalan

Bilal

Hadi

Group C:

Harris

Jibran

Nameer

Topic:

Each group will decide on the topic that they would present, topic has to be related to Islamic Studies but it is up to the group to decide on the topic that they would like to present.

Time:

Each group will have three minute to present with each group member speaking for one minute. Keeping to this time limit is important as we do not want to delay the assembly and salat prayers.

Presentation:

If students want to use program like PowerPoint or Google Slides to present then that is totally all right. If students just want to give a verbal speech without using any presentation tool like PowerPoint or Slides then that is OK too.

As part of homework students will:

1. Decided on the topic that they would present,

2. The order in which each speakers would speak, and

3. Have some bullet points ready for the topic.

Thanks,

Arshad

Dear Parents,

Today we covered prayer times. We talked about how and why prayer times changes based on the location and time of the year. Then, on a diagram, we showed how we can use the position of the sun to determine the prayer times. Finally, we illustrated the concept in the classroom using various subjects and ligh sources.

In the second half of the class we practiced the steps of various types of prayers using a table. Students filled out the table, their friends veried their answers and then we went over the answers.

Homework for March 17th: Fill out the prayer tables for fard, strong sunnah, and weak sunnah prayers that were handed out in the class.

Assalamu alaikum, This Sunday we covered Unit B, Chapter 5 - Muhammad Becomes a Prophet. In Salah we worked on Surah Fatiha and reciting any short Surah before Ruku. Homework: Students have to cover page 33 from the workbook. There will also be a test on Surah Fatiha and any short Surah they already know and they want to recite after Surah Fatiha in Salah. The test on 'Qiyam' will be on 3-17-2019. It would really help if they pray with their parents at home and learn to stand properly in Salah. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
