Dear Quran 5 Parents,

Assalamu Alaikum: Today, on the first day of Spring semester, I introduced verse 284 of Surah Al-Baqarah and handed out HW #9 (see attached). This HW is due next week (Jan 20), so please help your children memorize this verse.

There was a commment made in MAP Winter Fundraising Dinner by one of the youth that her little brother "got more HW in Sunday School than in regular school". Some youth also expressed that Sunday school expected children to memorize long surahs. I would like to hear your thoughts (as parents) on the amount of HW your children are assigned in Quran 5 and if you are concerned about the work load. You can see me on any Sunday after the class period ends at 12pm, or at other times by appointment.

Children should have received their Fall report cards today. Let me know if there are any questions are concerns.

Beautiful names of Allah's (SWT) Project:  Some children brought posters for their assigned names. I will collect it from them next week and find a way to dispaly them in class. Other children have decided to come up with a slide show and I have asked them to send me their slides by next Sunday so I can put all slides in one slide-show. I will let you know of a date in a 2-3 weeks when you can listen to your children talk about their slides during the class period; I hope you will make time to listen to your children's presentation (inshallah).

Dear Parents, Today we covered Salman al Farisi from our textbook. As part of the discussion we introduced the concept of “sahaba”, “tabiun”, and “atbau Tabiun”. We also briefly discussed famouse scholars of early Islam and how the concept of “mazhab” came about. In salah section, we reviewed the differences between fard, strong sunnah, and weak sunnah while performing these prayers. Homework for Jan 20th: Fill out the handed out homework sheet that describes the steps in performing a 4 rak’ah fard, weak sunnah, and strong sunnah prayer (e.g., Fard of Isha, first sunnah of Zuhr, and sunnah of Asr). Homework sheet is also attached to this post.

Assalamu alaikum, This Sunday we covered Unit C, chapter 5 “I love Ramadan”. Some kids had not done their homework, so they did their homework in class. Parents are requested to please help their kids do their homework. We also worked on memorizing Thana, “Subhana Kallahumma wa Bihamdika......”. Homework: Students have to cover page 46 from the workbook. Students also have to work on memorizing Thana, Subhana Kallahumma wa Bihamdika........ I handed back the kids’ test today in class. Also the report card for the first semester was also disturbed. Please check their bags. Students will have their next test from Unit C, chapters 1, 2 & 3 on January 27. They will also be tested on starting Salah with Takbeer and the aforementioned dua “Subhana Kallahumma wa Bihamdika.......Wala Illaha Ghairuk”. Assalamu Alaikum: Today children recited verses 21 thru 24 of Surah Al-Hashr for HW#8. All of them did a wonderful job (Masha' Allah). Thank you for your support and encouragement. Please check their HW sheets for their grades.

Children will receive their Fall report cards next week. Let me know if there are any questions are concerns.

Children should start working on the next which is to learn and explain the meanings of one of the names of Allah's Beautiful names. The assigned names are listed below; please work with your children to learn the name and its meaning and try to find reference from Quran or Hadith for these names:

Dear Parents,

Today we covered Unit B, Chapter 5 (Hud (AS)). We also reviewed how to pray 2, 3, 4 rak'ah salahs, the difference between praying fard vs sunnah and weak vs strong sunnah (i.e., who do we do differently in these prayers). 

I handed out graded Test 2 to students. This is the salah related test and scores are lower than expected (class average is 76%). We'll emphasize these subjects in the coming weeks to make sure students are comfortable with the material.

Homework for Jan 13th: Read Unit B, Chapter 5 (Hud (AS)) and do exercises 1 and 2 from the worksheet book (page 44).

      Today I was unable to take class, Sister Mehak took the class. Unit C, Chapter 4 was covered in class. In Salah students worked on Thana, "Subhana Kallahumma.....". Parents are reqested to work with the kids at home. The project was due today and the kids did a great job on their projects. Students who brought their projects 2 points were added to their grade for their hardwork.

AA, The classes prior to winter break were taught by substitute teachers,Insha Allah I look forward to coming back in January 6th. 

In December UNIT B chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 have been covered. There was no HW given for winter break. 

However if your child did not take the Test 2 that was given on December 9th, they will be given the test on January 6th Insha allah. (Test 2 covered UNIT A chapters 4, 5, 6 and 7)
