________________________________________________

Homework due on 09/24
 - Read pages 33-39 from the textbook
 - Be prepared to discuss:
      - Why is it insufficient to just memorize the names of Allah?
      - How do we apply the names of Allah in our lives?

Update from 09/16
- We learned how Quran7 class is structured; shared feedback on Sunday school; learned about Allah's name Al-Salaam
- Ask your student: what is the connection between Islam, Salaam, Al-Salaam, and Muslim?

Dear Parents,

Assalamu Alaikum: Today we reviewed some of the highlights of Prophet Muhammad (S) life until he received the first revelation. Please go over the story of the first revelation in the Cave of Hira with your children.

I also assigned the first HW assignment which is to memorize first 5 verses from Surah Al-Alaq (see the attached). One method of memorizing is to repeat the verses at least 3 times every day (at different times); within 5-6 days should have it memorized (inshallah). However, any other techniques and methods that you have found successful for your children will also work.

I also explained to children that we will have an assembly presentation of the stories from Surah Al-Alaq in place of a test. If a child does not want to participate in the assembly presentation, he/she can then take the test (which is to recite the entire surah Al-Alaq from memory).

I will explain more details about the assembly presentations next week (inshallah). Please let me know if there any questions.

Talked about the historical perspective of these terms, how Islam is unique compared to other religions. Parents,

Assalamalaikum,

Please note that the homework for 9/16/2018 is from the "I Love Islam 5 Worksheets" book. From this book, students have to complete two exercises:

Unit A --> Chapter 1 --> Exercise 1 and Exercise 2.

Exercise 1 has three matching questions and Exercise 2 has 9 True/False questions. I do not think it would take more than 10 minutes to complete the homework.

Please let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks,

Dear Quran 5 Parents,

Assalamu Alaikum: On the first day of the class, I briefly reviewed the lesson plans (also attached for your reference) and we came up with class rules.

Please make sure to review the lesson plans and let me know if you have any questions. This class requires memorization of one long surah (Al-Alaq) and few long verses from Surah Al-Hashr and Surah Al-Baqarah. If students practice reciting the HW verses 2-3 times every day (preferably at different times), they will have it memorized in 5-6 days (inshallah).

If your child needs to learn to read Quran, I hope you have already made arrangements. Otherwise, Imam Khalid is available before school every Sunday.

Best Regards,

Ishfaq Ahmad

Dear Parents,

Today, we had a conversation with students about what they understand from Islam. Then we talked about three main legs Islam sits on: faith, ibadat (prayers), and muamalat (following Islam's instructions in our daily life). We discussed why each of these are important and what the consequences would be if we ignore any one of them.

We also reviewed types of salahs and five daily prayers.
