Selamun Aleykum Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome all of you. Since it was the first day of Sunday School,  I read Surah Al Fatiha  and I explained the meaning of why we read Fatiha as an opener. Then I introduced myself and each student did the same.  I also explained  how to use our book  and they colored the first letter Alif . We played two different games as well. I will send weekly updates every week no later then Monday so please check your email  to help your son/daugter with homework.

Dear Parents,

Today, we had a conversation with students about what they understand from Islam. Then we talked about three main legs Islam sits on: faith, ibadat (prayers), and muamalat (following Islam's instructions in our daily life). We discussed why each of these are important and what the consequences would be if we ignore any one of them.

We also reviewed types of salahs and five daily prayers.

Assalamu alaikum. It was a pleasure to meet all the students today. This year we have a new book. And all the students also have a worksheet book, all the homework will be in the worksheet book. We covered Chapter 1 today, “Allah, Our Great Creator”. We talked how everything around us has been created by Allah. We also tried to memorize saying Subhan’ Allah whenever we see something beautiful. A reminder at home will be very helpful. Next week we will start Salah InshaAllah. Dear Parents,

Today we reviewed last week's discussion about different salah types (Eid, Jum'a, Janazah). Then we covered lesson 23 (Taqwa). We started with the definition of Muslim and Mu'min and differences between them. Then we introduced the concept of taq'wa and muttaki and talked about how we can achieve this status.

Homework for May 6th: Read Lesson 23 and answer questions at the end of the lesson.

Assalamu Alaikum:

'Dua Qanoot' is the last assigned HW (see attached). Students have until May 6 to memorize the dua'. Although I will not be in class on May 6, Sr. Maysaa (the class parent) will listen to all students recite the dua for their HW. Children can also do any of the missing HW assignments or tests; just let me know before Friday so I can alert Sr. Maysaa.

Please note that May 6 is the last class. I will be turning in the final grades by May 7 to school administration. School graduation ceremony will be held on May 13; hope to see you all there (inshallah).

ISLAMIC STUDIES 2
1. In the chapter on Obedience we read about what it means to obey others. Obedience means to follow the teaching or orders of someone. First we obey (Allah (stw)) Second, we obey our (parents)
2. In the chapter about Respect we got to know why it is important to treat someone with honor. After Allah (swt)’s name we say – (subhan – wa – Ta- ala ) After our last prophet’s name we add (Sallahi Aliahi Wa Sallam)
3. The chapter on Kindness introduced us to the Surah in the Quran which is known as Acts of Kindness – this surah is (Al-Maun)
4. In the chapter foods that we may eat, we learnt that before we eat any food we must say, (Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim)
5.  Allah (swt) allows us to eat all good food, these are (Halal) foods. The food that Allah (swt) does not want us to eat is called ( Haram)

Please note that there would be a Islamic Studies test on April 29th. This test would cover chapters 23, 25 and 26. Test would have multiple choice questions and if the students have read the chapters carefully and know the questions and answers at the end of each chapter then they would be well prepared for the test.

If the students want to improve their Salah points, they can practice during this week and I will repeat the Salah part of the test for them. After the test we finished our lesson Eid: Two Festivals.
